SEOULâ€"Rev. Moon Sun-myung grew up in a Korean nation torn by colonialism and communism, started a church with himself as savior, built it into a world-wide movement known for its mass weddings and sprawling business empireâ€"and despite preaching a doctrine of love and unity, often sparked divisiveness and controversy.
The Rev. Sun-myung Moon, as he was often known, died in a hospital in Gapyeong, where the church has a large community, following complications from pneumonia, officials from his church, known as the Unification Church, said, according to the Associated Press. He was 92.
